With your Nokia N95 it’s very easy to make sip/voip calls, so cheap (or FREE!) calls. Also when roaming you can use your voipbuster account (or similar provider, providing SIP connectivity) from your holiday location. Wlan or 3G (umts) connection is a must for this. You will also need to register with a provider like Voipbuster. The settings you need to do in your Nokia, go to the menu:

tools -> settings -> connection -> sip settings

  • Profile name: Voipbuster
  • Service profile: IETF
  • Default access point: choose a wlan accesspoint
  • Public username: your_username
  • Use compression: no
  • Registration: When needed
  • Use security: no
  • Proxy server: leave all empty, no need to fill in
  • Registrar server
    • Registrar server address: sip.voipbuster.com
    • Realm: voipbuster.com
    • Username: your_voipbuster_username
    • Password: your_voipbuster_password
    • Transport type: Auto
    • Port: 5060

Now the sip settings are complete, we need to add a Voip Profile, go to:

tools -> settings -> connection -> Internet tel.

Create a new profile by clicking options, new profile, then enter/choose:

  • Profile name: Voipbuster
  • Sip profiles: Voipbuster

Now you’re almost ready to make a voip call! You can see the registration status and perform some additional settings from the menu:

tools -> settings -> connectivity-> Internet tel.

click options -> connect to service – you can check the registration status.

click options -> settings to change the default call type and change some more advanced settings

I’ll post some additional screen shots to help you through the settings. Please also feel free to post questions you have regarding sip setup/problems, maybe I can help you to set it up.

By the way, it will also work with other Nokia sip phones, like the E61, E65 and other internet edition phones with sip onboard.

With voipbuster it’s now possible to make free calls with your voip enabled nokia to US mobile and landline, Netherlands, France, Spain and many others! Check here.

    @David: do you have a branded device? Maybe it has been disabled. It should be available under:

    tools -> settings -> connectivity-> Internet tel.
    click options -> connect to service – you can check the registration status.

    Since this is the first page that Google shows when searching for “N95 voipbuster” and I was having a hard time to make it work here are the right configurations for using N95 8GB along with Voipbuster:

    Public username: your_username@sip.voipbuster.com

    Realm: sip.voipbuster.com

    With these two corrections it will work flawlessly!
